What’s that, another podcast wants me to guest? Wow! Word must be getting around about what a super-fantastic podcast guest I am. Well, okay, maybe not, but I guess they don’t think I’m all that bad.
Mark your calendars because on July 5th I’ll be chatting with the talented and prolific Tim Niederriter on the Alive After Reading Podcast.
I hope you’ll tune in when the episode drops.
Sending out my work is always a nerve wracking experience. You never know how a reviewer will respond to the material, or even what kind of mood they’ll be in when they pick up the book. The best that can be hoped for is an honest and straightforward critique of the work.
Recently DISEASE was reviewed over at HorrorAddicts.net. This is a site created by horror fans, for horror fans, and it’s dedicated to all that goes bump in the night. As you can imagine they get lots of horror related material over there, and DISEASE was just one of many sitting in a pile that increased daily. That’s why when reviewer David Watson told me that he loved my book, I was so excited and happy.
Among the many wonderful things that David had to say about DISEASE he wrote:
Disease is the kind of book that I would show to someone when they ask why I like to read horror.”
What a wonderful compliment.
If you’d like to read the entire review, you can find it HERE
I’m really starting to rack up the podcast notches on that bedpost of mine! Pseudopod is an amazing horror fiction podcast and they were kind enough to do a blurb and excerpt of DISEASE for me. Pop on over to their website to hear the cast!
Another podcast notch on my bedpost! I think I’m starting to get the hang of this thing. Tales to Terrify host Stephen Kilpatrick was kind enough to host me as his very first interview guest! You can find the most recent episode of Tales to Terrify on iTunes. It was a lot of fun answering questions about my serialized novel DISEASE and just as much fun seeing how many people on Twitter are loving it!
I think the only disappointment came when I was listening to the podcast, and Stephen dropped my name incorrectly. He referred to me as M.L. Wahl in the second half (but got it right in the beginning thankfully). I guess this is why there’s that old Hollywood joke actors make “just make sure they get my name right”! In a situation like this there’s nothing to do but laugh and hope the mistake is corrected soon.
I’m at least happy that the podcast sounded great and to see so many people jumping on the hashtag train. Tales to Terrify is running a contest. If you tweet #MFWahl, or in this case #MLWahl, then you’re entered to win a copy of DISEASE. I guess I’ll be counting both names, to be fair to everyone. So, listen to the podcast, then head to Twitter for a chance to win a copy of my book! And don’t worry if you don’t win! The first serial of DISEASE will be released this Thursday, September 18th, 2014.
UPDATE: The gracious host of Tales to Terrify, Stephen Kilpatrick, is going to try and correct the mistake. If the podcast can’t be updated to iTunes then he’ll issue a correction in the next cast.
Alright, I’ll admit it. I was nervous. Terrified even. As a writer I’m what some people politely refer to as “socially awkward”. When I realized that to promote my novel DISEASE I’d have to do some podcasts, I kind of freaked out.
I’m soldier of the written word, and interaction with actual people can be pretty stressful for me. I actually lost sleep over being a guest on my first podcast, and even thought of having a few drinks before recording, just to take the edge off. Thankfully for everyone involved I didn’t, because I probably would have made a mess of things, especially considering that one drink is more than enough for me these days.
I’m happy to announce that not only did I survive my first podcast, but I actually had fun. This is due mostly in part to my wonderful hosts, Wayne, Santino, and Miss. Mandee, who were very gentle with this podcast virgin. We discussed DISEASE, necrophilia, The Walking Dead, toddler tattoos, bod mod, and so much more. Fair warning, this is NOT a Safe For Work listen, but boy, did we ever have fun.
You can listen to me try no to make a foll of myself on iTunes, Sticher, and on the web through Libsyn, right here: http://ow.ly/Bq4dX
Don’t forget to pop on over Twitter or Facebook and tell me how you think I did.
