It’s no secret that I love zombies. I love zombies so much I wrote a damn zombie novel! I love talking zombies, I love thinking about zombies, and I love expounding upon the virtues of both the classic slow zombie and the newer fast zombie. My novel, DISEASE, has both. Find out why over at Zombie Guide Magazine where I guest blog all about it.

Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 9.16.40 AMThere are few things better than chatting horror and gore, except maybe chatting horror, gore, and zombies! I sit down with blog host Christine Verstraete to discuss my novel DISEASE, and dish on the gory details. Head on over to Zombie Girl Authors to read my guest post “The Art of Gore” and learn how I balance story and violence in the post-apocalyptic world of DISEASE.

DISEASE: SERIAL 1 goes on sale TOMORROW, September 18th, 2014. Available for Kindle, iBooks, Nook, Kobo, and more! Hit up your favorite eBook retailer for a copy.

734081_473160529413695_530581724_nLately I’ve been so busy promoting my novel DISEASE that I’ve had little time to do much else. I’ve been writing guest blog posts, creating final proofs, preparing DISEASE for print, and being a guest on podcasts. It’s kept me away from a lot of other things and my own oft listened to list of casts has grown embarrassingly large.

One of my favorite casts, and one that has been backlogged in my iTunes for a few weeks is The Horror Movie Show (HMPod). It’s a great show hosted by my friend and fellow Canadian Jerry, and his co-host Mark. I always enjoy their listening to their banter, so I thought what better time to catch up on a cast or two then while walking the dog and the kid this afternoon. I slapped on a pair of headphones and started up the machine. You can a imagine my surprise when I heard my name! Not only once, but TWICE Jerry plugged DISEASE. And to think, I had starting listening to that exact episode about a week ago and had to turn it off to go and be a parent, I never made it to the plug.

Now, as humble a guy as Jerry is, he never mentioned the plug to me, and I was caught so off guard I had to pull my phone out of my pocket and rewind the podcast to be sure I heard right! What an amazing feeling to have my book plugged like that! Christmas in… September? And, to put icing on the cake the episode was as great one (as always)!

So, if you’re interested in listening to an awesome horror movie review podcast with two witty guys and that love to banter, find them on iTunes. Don’t forget to listen to episode #155 to hear Jerry drop the “D” bomb (DISEASE that is)!

tales-to-terrify-logoAnother podcast notch on my bedpost! I think I’m starting to get the hang of this thing. Tales to Terrify host Stephen Kilpatrick was kind enough to host me as his very first interview guest! You can find the most recent episode of Tales to Terrify on iTunes. It was a lot of fun answering questions about my serialized novel DISEASE and just as much fun seeing how many people on Twitter are loving it!

I think the only disappointment came when I was listening to the podcast, and Stephen dropped my name incorrectly. He referred to me as M.L. Wahl in the second half (but got it right in the beginning thankfully). I guess this is why there’s that old Hollywood joke actors make “just make sure they get my name right”! In a situation like this there’s nothing to do but laugh and hope the mistake is corrected soon.

I’m at least happy that the podcast sounded great and to see so many people jumping on the hashtag train. Tales to Terrify is running a contest. If you tweet #MFWahl, or in this case #MLWahl, then you’re entered to win a copy of DISEASE. I guess I’ll be counting both names, to be fair to everyone. So, listen to the podcast, then head to Twitter for a chance to win a copy of my book! And don’t worry if you don’t win! The first serial of DISEASE will be released this Thursday, September 18th, 2014.

UPDATE: The gracious host of Tales to Terrify, Stephen Kilpatrick, is going to try and correct the mistake. If the podcast can’t be updated to iTunes then he’ll issue a correction in the next cast.

Screen Shot 2014-09-02 at 8.36.57 PMWow! How happy am I to have DISEASE featured on the front page of The Horror Movie Show? VERY HAPPY! I often listen to this wonderful podcast and to be it’s an honor to have my novel promoted on their page.

caseydouglasslogoMy novel DISEASE was a labor of love. The uncountable cups of coffee that slowly rotted though my gut and the eyes so dry they could bleed, were but a petty price to pay for building my love one syllable at a time.

It’s always nerve-wracking to send my work out into the world. Especially when I’ve put in so many hours pounding away at the laptop, and taken so much time away from my family to create it. Once DISEASE was sent out for review I had to let it go, sit back, and slowly ration the confidence I had bottled during the creation process.

Of course, as the weeks and months tick by (the review process is a long one) the confidence in that bottle begins to dwindle. The saying goes that “no word is good word” but the steady hum of crickets in my e-mail box can often feel like it’s own form of torture.

When that e-mail from a reviewer finally hits my inbox at  3am my stomach tightens, and my breath quickens. My mouse hovers over the link, and for a small moment my I hover in Schrodinger’s world: the review is both horrible, like a disemboweling stab to the gut, and adoring, like screaming fans at a pop-star’s feet.

Today I’m pleased to announce that I braved the unknown and clicked the e-mail from Casey Douglass of Dark Distractions, horror writer and reviewer. Much to my relief I was not struck down, sliced at the knees with a knife, nor clubbed to death by his review. A whopping 4 out of 5, and a big smile on my face.

Here’s a little taste of the review for you: “It (DISEASE) is well written, interesting and paced in a way that will get you wondering what happens next.”

I’m sure you’ll want to read the entire review, so check it out on Casey’s blog.

Happy reading friends!
